Audit Audits are a necessary element of any selfregulation scheme. They are conducted by an independent third party. The GVP-audits are performed by E&J Belgium, a branch of Eville & Jones, the UK based specialist veterinary and auditing company. E&J Belgium was appointed by GVP vzw. Audits always take a positive approach towards the auditee. During an audit, the auditor will assess in what way you have implemented the system, and how you assure to follow the requirements. Any faults found during an audit are discussed and a time for remedial action agreed. They are also graded for severity and depending upon the severity of the faults and the overall assessment of the situation a re-audit might be necessary. Only a major fault or a general underachievement will lead to a full re-audit. For smaller faults only a partial re-audit is necessary to check that remedial action was taken and was effictive. These partial re-audits are only necessary when a given minimumscore was not achieved. The smallest faults are not re-audited, but re-assessed the next year. Major faults are those instances where public health, animal health or animal welfare were compromised or where legal requirements are consistently not met. For a more detailed approach to the scoring system used see the Rules for GVP-certification (document in Dutch).
